Certification Duration
First aid certificates are valid for three years, except the First Aid at Work Requalification certificate, which is valid for three years and 28 days.Â

How Many First Aiders Are Required in a Workplace?
The number of first aiders required depends on your workplace environment:Â
Low Hazard Environment:
- Fewer than 25 employees: At least one appointed person
- 25-50 employees: At least one first-aider trained in Emergency First Aid at Work
- More than 50 employees:Â One first-aider trained in First Aid at Work for every 100 employees
High Hazard Environment:
- Fewer than 5 employees: At least one appointed person
- 5-50 employees: One first-aider trained in Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work (depending on potential injuries)
- More than 50 employees: One first-aider trained in First Aid at Work for every 50 employeesÂ
What Should Be in a First Aid Kit at Work?
A first aid kit’s contents should be based on a first aid assessment. Employers are responsible for arranging or conducting this assessment to determine necessary personnel, equipment, and facilities.Â
While there isn’t a mandatory list, a suggested minimum stock for low-risk environments includes:Â
- General first aid guidance leaflet
- Two sterile eye pads
- 20 assorted sterile plasters
- Four individually wrapped triangular bandages
- Six safety pins
- Two large, sterile, unmedicated wound dressings
- Six medium-sized, sterile, unmedicated wound dressings
- At least three pairs of disposable glovesÂ
